I'd Rather Walk Thank Run

I'd Rather Walk Than Run
I’ll be honest, even though I own running shoes & clothes and generally take part in a handful of 5Ks each year, I hate running. I don’t always hate it while I’m running (depends on the terrain) but invariably, I hate it the next day when I am stiff & sore.
Of course, a whole bunch of folks really can’t run due to much more serious health impediments than my laziness & lack of regular training. So I shouldn’t complain. That’s one reason that the Church Health Center ditched its 5K run event in favor of a walk. A walk is more inclusive. Our annual walk fundraiser set for April 23 attracts of broad array – community athletes, CHC patients, kids, older folks, black, white, inner city, suburban. In fact, the diversity aspect is such a big deal that we picked a special name for the event: Walking As One.
I hope that you’ll sign up and maybe even form a team. Funds raised at the event will help us cover the costs of treating many thousands of the working poor in our community. And you’ll get a tee shirt, snacks, other goodies, enjoy a walk and other activities, and generally feel good about doing so. Plus you probably won’t be stiff & sore the next day.
Will you help me spread the word? In your congregation, book club, office, among your friends, fellow alumni, where ever? If you need flyers, I’ve got them. If you need someone to come speak, I can help with that.
Meanwhile here is a helpful link. http://walkingasone.org/ Thanks for considering.
